PORTLAND MAINE - July 2 2007 The Boston Blast U14 Boys capped off a dominant post-season by making it through to the semi-finals of the 2007 US Youth Soccer Region I Championships. Playing without five key players, and with several others playing through injuries, the Blast put up a valiant effort against the eventual Regional Champions, Baltimore Casa Mia Bays. But in the end, the team came up a little short losing by the score of 3-0. By advancing to the Regional semi finals, the Massachusetts State Champion Blast side was one of the final 16 teams in the USYSA National Cup in their age group. Their success is a tribute to the courage, the strength and the quality of the entire Blast team.
During the round-robin phase of the Regionals in Maine, the Blast defeated the West Virginia Chaos 5-0, and topped the Western Pennsylvania champs, Penns Forrest 4-0. In the exciting third game of the round-robin, the Blast overcame a 1-0 deficit against a tough Blizzard team (Delaware champs), and scored 3 goals in the final 10 minutes to advance to the semi-finals.
Including the Virginian Memorial Day Tournament, State Cup and Region I Championships, the Blast went 13-1-0 since the end of the Maple League season.
